Brooklyn Hip Hop Fest 201

Good morning New World,

I know this is early, but I felt the need to blog. I saw an IG post, this morning, about DMX failing a drug test. It hurt me because I am a fan. I am a 90’s hip hop head, which not too many people know, and there isn’t too many rappers where I buy their collections. DMX is one of them. Needless to say, when Brooklyn Hip Hop Fest came in, and he was the header, I was there. So, I wanted to share the images I took over the summer. Please enjoy!

Something New?!

Hello New World,

First, I want to apologize for the length of time I’ve been away. I have so many things to tell and so much to fulfill. So, the last time I caught up with you, I was in the process of getting bariatric surgery. Well, since then, I did it! The recovery was an uphill struggle. I don’t regret my decision, because it is my decision. I felt that this was the right path for me. I feel better, about life and myself. I look at life more grateful, now. I started at 255 lbs. and since I have been 207 lbs. I still have to work at getting the weight off, because I want to be 190 lbs. Since the cold weather, I have been stuck in the house. It drives me up the wall.

The second is that I have finally settled into DC. I know what you may be thinking, but DC has finally made some strides to gain and retain residents. I applied for an apartment, in Southwest DC. Anyone that really knows me, knows that I love living by the water. It is something about the water that is so calm and so peaceful. It allows my creativity to flow. Right now, I am waiting on the list, and patiently waiting for my opportunity. Me and my fiancé. Yes, I will be getting married. We applied for the apartment. I can’t wait to move in.

The third is I am adding a product, to my repertoire. Yes, I am a candle lover. I have been burning candles for years, and I decided to start making my own. So, I bought some supplies and started making my candles. The first few did not work out right. It took a few try’s and I finally got the candle process down. Don’t get it twisted, I am still learning. I am not bad, but I’m not great at it. So, I decided to come up with a side project. It’s called Chubby Cake Candles. They will be available for sale, very soon. When they become available, I will post to my blog!

Oh, and I will be posting a year in review, soon. It will showcase some of the events I shot.

One Thing Everyone Must Do

Good Morning New World,

dsc_0005I know it has been a while, and I do apologize. I am in the process of putting my life in a position where I can be back to being me. I realized that during the process of unemployment, you go through a process of redefining. It is very hard, to say the least. In the midst of unemployment, school bankruptcy, etc., we get clouded with moving forward and feel comfortable staying where we are. Wait a minute, you didn’t come here to read about my philosophy. Did you?! Probably not.

So, I will chat about something everyone needs to do. The African American Museum, in Washington DC, is finally built. The outside of the building, is a really eccentric design, but it’s what’s inside that really counts. “The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. To date, the museum has collected more than 36,000 artifacts. Nearly 100,000 individuals have become charter members of the museum. When the NMAAHC opens on September 24, 2016, it will be the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution.” (nmaahc.si.edu, 2016) It has seven floor of history and, from my understanding, the floors goes from the darkest hours, on the bottom floors, to the lighter times. Unfortunately, due to my past injury, I could not view the entire museum. However, I will show you what I did see.

And Enjoy

MB Fashion Week in NYC?! I Think So!

Hey New World,

I wanted to start off this post with an opportunity I had to miss. LinkedIn is a very useful social media tool. It’s excellent for networking. If you don’t have an account, you should really think about getting one. Well, I hope I am not overstepping myself here, but I have to tell you this story. Yesterday, I was home, due to the “snow storm”. I look in my email and noticed that I had a message. It talked about an opportunity to shoot, today. This was for HER DC Life Magazine. Unfortunately, I had a previous engagement. I was able to recommend someone to the magazine, but I sorely wished that I could have done it.

Okay, so back to the post.

Remember, from the last post, I stated that I was inspired by the photographers group, I was in. Well, it also inspired me to apply for a dream of mine. At the very least, start it. I have begun the process of applying for a press pass for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York. I have always wanted to do this, but knew I had to be to a certain “level” in order to this. I knew I wasn’t to that level, yet. Hanging with the group, help me to build my confidence level.  Of course, I haven’t finished it, yet. I heard, from a friend of mine, that the press pass will cost and I would like to get this when I have extra to play with. Also, there is a huge part of me, which is scared to do it. The fact that I will be coming in as my own media outlet, I guess, can be either heralded or discriminated, depending upon the person. Not to mention, the “snub” level may be very high.  None the less, I need to do this. Networking opportunities should be very high, with great potential. Not to mention, the bragging rights you have with it! I would be like “Hey, I don’t need to hook on to anyone else, I’M LADY TRE’! I get into all the hot shows!” and stuff of that nature.

I need to stop! However, I am going to wrap up my application and this post today!

So What’s Next?

Hey New World,

I apologize for the late post. Personal life is taking me places.

So, I noticed something. I went back to old posts, and I spoke a reality into my life. How exciting it is to see that a post that you had written at the beginning of the year and had no idea would come into reality, is the new norm! So with that being said, I am going to make another reality happen. This year, I want to be published in a big name publication! I don’t know how this is going to happen, but I’m going to put my all into making this goal happen. Mark it!

This year, I have two more classes I need to get out of the way. I’m doing the Photography Business I and II classes. I need this to build into a business for my daughter. One day, she is going to take it over. She is a great photographer, now. I need her to strive to be the exceptional one. Also, I need to create a brand! Not trying to sound bad in any way, but I realized that I am a unique individual. I realized that people recognize me from my hair, and then realize I have a personality. Go figure! I want have people recognize that personality. If people can identify you, then they feel a connection to you, I think. I want that! This creates better business.

This year, I need to be more in NYC. I spent a good bit of time up there, but I still need to network way more than what I have. I am so grateful for the people I have met, in my life. They have been so awesome. Truly, they have, in a sense, been my lifeline and inspiration, and I feel so blessed to know these individuals. You know who you are.

With that being said, I put my affirmations out there.

Tell me yours!

MshopNYC Review

2-BECOME-A-StylistHey New World,

So, I am back, for a while, though. I just came back from NYC, and boy are my arms tired!

Seriously, I just came back a week ago, and I’m tired and sick. I brought you guys back a cold from NYC!

So, I wanted to give a huge shout out to Michelle. She was very informative and inspirational to me. She has styled for numerous celebrities, opened her own boutique, taught various informational workshops, and she is originally from DC. She understood that in order to become someone great, you need to be in an area of greatness. Michelle gave honest answer for all the questions I had. I think that, unfortunately, I may have put her in a position that can be confusing, because I wanted just styling ideas. The stylist class is definitely for business and breaking into the industry, when starting from scratch. She offered so many options, for me, professionally, that I did not think about. I appreciated that, greatly. There are sooooo many changes to be made. So with that being said, next year will offer me new changes. Website, once again, will be revamped. I want to add to my portfolio stylist work. I think I can do this. I have always loved putting pieces together, and this offers me that opportunity. Also, when I officially make that “Big Move”, I want to be able to have job options. I think this will allow me to do this. While doing the workshop, Michelle made mention about Karl Lagerfeld. I knew of him as the lead stylist for Chanel, and that was it. She stated that he is considered as a “creative genius”. When I got home, I looked him up, and she was correct. He is lead stylist, creative director, and photographer. After reading more, I realized I have researched my new idol! I only know a small handful of people, who are considered as “Jack of All Trades”, and I want to strive to be this, within the fashion industry. Needless to say, the trip was very inspirational and very productive. So, if you don’t know how to get your “foot in the door” in the industry, I would greatly recommend taking one of Michelle’s workshops. Also, MShopNYC offers so many other workshops, in addition to the stylist workshop. Check them out!

The DC Latin Fashion Awards Show

Hey New World,

latin-fashion-week-galeria-expo-and-showroom-2012_239x200I am trying to get back on my schedule. It’s hard but I am getting there. I don’t want people to think I am just doing a “Soapbox Blog”. It ain’t like that?!

So first thing first, my updates. I have a huge project, that I am keeping under wraps, for the moment. This, for me, as well as quite a few others, will be “huge”. Once I get the “green light” to share, I will. Trust me!

On to the subject, DCLFA show.

_DSC3297 copyWhat else can I say, other than “pure magic”! I loved the designs. Honestly, right off the runway, I would love wearing all of it! Simply gorgeous! It was so much to shoot, that I still have images to clean. Anywho, here are a few shots!

It’s the Premiere! Bottom Of Bottom’s Launch Party

Hello New World,

I am back from the Big Apple!

What a time! I could scream it from the roof tops about how I love being in NYC. It is always the best!

Dame Fashion/Vagabond Sophisticent magazine, both, are the creation of Editor In Chief Whitney Bell. It will display fashion from around this country,  from variety of the latest upcoming photographers. Side advertisement, I’m in that hot few! The premiere issue will be available on iTunes on August 17, 2014, and the print will be available for purchase, through Dame’s site, on August 24, 2014. So definitely check it out for the content and ME! HELLO?!

So how was the launch?

Awesome! I will say that I was behind, though. It took me a minute longer to get ready. None the less, though, it was awesome. We got a table, next to the stage. I don’t know about anyone else, but I had fun! Ate a nice meal and partied beside Dru Hill. Anyone that really knows me, knows that I am a huge Sisqo fan! I loved everything he had on, especially his Nike’s! I loved it!

One more side note-Thank you soooooo much to Whitney Bell and her crew for putting the whole party together. Once, again, one of the most awesome moments in my life, having Sisqo singing in my mere direction! Whew! Thank you, ma’am!

Anyway, here is the video! The rest of the videos are located on my FB page.

Photographer’s Must See!

Hey New World,

So how was your weekend? Mine was interesting. I know you know that I would be more vocal about my whereabouts, but you know?!

This week, for me, is crunch week!

I have to get myself prepared to travel to New York, next week. My hair and feet need to be done, still waiting on my head piece, and a last minute switch of hotels really makes me trip out! Once again, the launch party, for Dame Magazine, is THIS SUNDAY! I heard there were still tickets left, so if you are willing, come party with us at SOB’s in Lower Manhattan! Jagged Edge and Mario Winans are among the guests to be there. It’s gonna be vicious!

Back to what I was telling you. Oh yeah, Thu20140722-144949-53389509.jpgrsday, I had an Instagram message about a pop up show. So, when I heard about it, I said, “Sure”! So, I grabbed my friend, Leah Jones, and we were off and running. The show was

very interesting. There were multiple vintage vendors there. One in particular, Sophisticated Phunk Vintage, had some really cool gear. I liked her operation because of the fact that she was willing to work with photographers. She knew that I didn’t want to buy and keep the clothes. I wanted to “rent” them for a one day shoot. She was willing to work with us, meaning photographers, to rent the clothes for a day. She has an IG (Instagram) account and there are quite a few items she has that I would love to rent for a shoot. One dress, in particular, is very hot for a shoot I have in mind for the fall. Needless to say, I can’t wait! The vendors were wonderful, when you walked in, it felt like a family reunion. 20140722-145040-53440104.jpgThere were a ton of deals and great items out to buy. I loved it!

When I got home, the show had given me a renewed inspiration I sorely needed. I sincerely thank Renee Richardson, of Dulce Mina Catering, for giving me the “heads up” on this event.
