Something New?!

Hello New World,

First, I want to apologize for the length of time I’ve been away. I have so many things to tell and so much to fulfill. So, the last time I caught up with you, I was in the process of getting bariatric surgery. Well, since then, I did it! The recovery was an uphill struggle. I don’t regret my decision, because it is my decision. I felt that this was the right path for me. I feel better, about life and myself. I look at life more grateful, now. I started at 255 lbs. and since I have been 207 lbs. I still have to work at getting the weight off, because I want to be 190 lbs. Since the cold weather, I have been stuck in the house. It drives me up the wall.

The second is that I have finally settled into DC. I know what you may be thinking, but DC has finally made some strides to gain and retain residents. I applied for an apartment, in Southwest DC. Anyone that really knows me, knows that I love living by the water. It is something about the water that is so calm and so peaceful. It allows my creativity to flow. Right now, I am waiting on the list, and patiently waiting for my opportunity. Me and my fiancé. Yes, I will be getting married. We applied for the apartment. I can’t wait to move in.

The third is I am adding a product, to my repertoire. Yes, I am a candle lover. I have been burning candles for years, and I decided to start making my own. So, I bought some supplies and started making my candles. The first few did not work out right. It took a few try’s and I finally got the candle process down. Don’t get it twisted, I am still learning. I am not bad, but I’m not great at it. So, I decided to come up with a side project. It’s called Chubby Cake Candles. They will be available for sale, very soon. When they become available, I will post to my blog!

Oh, and I will be posting a year in review, soon. It will showcase some of the events I shot.

One Thing Everyone Must Do

Good Morning New World,

dsc_0005I know it has been a while, and I do apologize. I am in the process of putting my life in a position where I can be back to being me. I realized that during the process of unemployment, you go through a process of redefining. It is very hard, to say the least. In the midst of unemployment, school bankruptcy, etc., we get clouded with moving forward and feel comfortable staying where we are. Wait a minute, you didn’t come here to read about my philosophy. Did you?! Probably not.

So, I will chat about something everyone needs to do. The African American Museum, in Washington DC, is finally built. The outside of the building, is a really eccentric design, but it’s what’s inside that really counts. “The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. To date, the museum has collected more than 36,000 artifacts. Nearly 100,000 individuals have become charter members of the museum. When the NMAAHC opens on September 24, 2016, it will be the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution.” (, 2016) It has seven floor of history and, from my understanding, the floors goes from the darkest hours, on the bottom floors, to the lighter times. Unfortunately, due to my past injury, I could not view the entire museum. However, I will show you what I did see.

And Enjoy

The Social Cleanse

Good Evening New World,

First off, I wanted to give out huge shout out to Alee, of Dynamic PR. I know this is late, and being as though I wanted to complete my “social cleanse”, I didn’t post, until my cleanse was over. She has awesome events, and this one was no exception. She was a sponsor for today’s “DMV Summer Jam 2K16”. For more information about this event or for her services, and trust me, for PR services, she is absolutely phenomenal, please contact her in the link below. The second event, is the Glamourina Launch Party and Cookout. The event is set for July 4th and you must register for the event. It is a free event, with a fashion show. FYI- I shot the promo images for the new line.😁 I will link this event, below the post.

Ok, so getting into the subject.

A social cleanse is when you just stop responding to the world. No text, email, and social media. The cleanse last for about two weeks. I turned my phone on “Do Not Disturb”, and logged off of all my social media accounts. I won’t lie, the first day was the hardest. After a few days, I began to “rediscover myself”, and my worth. I began to remind myself of what it was I wanted to do, was passionate about, and my migraines and body started to relax. I know it sounds crazy, but social media has this very stressful effect on us. It makes us, do the most in order to keep up with the Joneses, and that coupled with my home stress began to burn me out. I felt drained and depressed. I thought going on FB would make it better, and it only made it worse. So, in an impromptu decision, I decided to log off.

So the total review on the cleanse. Honestly, it was what my body needed. I worked on software I hadn’t even used in years. I started volunteering with Archaeology In The Community (AITC), as a social media assistant. I felt unbelievable. I want to encourage anyone to do the same. If you feel like you’re beat down and depressed, please do it. You will begin to feel so much better. I started with the cleanse, and now, I am taking it one step further. As of Monday, I will only keep my artist page, with Facebook. I no longer want or need my personal page. I am not big on IG, Twitter, on LinkedIn, so those sites are fine. It’s just FB. This, for me, is helping me to reduce stress and I am so happy to do this.

So, if you do it, or have done it, please tell me your experience. Feel free to leave it in the comments section, below.

Water, Water, Everywhere

Good Morning New World,
So, I wanted to give you my first weigh in

225 lbs

My starting was

226.4 lbs

I went down 1.4 lbs.

The first tip I noticed, was water. Plenty of water. The trick with this tip, is that you must take your current weight, and divide it by two. That is the ounces you should be drinking, to effectively lose weight. Won’t even lie, the bathroom will become your best friend, but pounds lost will be an added bonus.

So try this tip, and share any you may have.

My Weight Loss Journey

Good Morning New World,
So, the topic, for today, is so left field from photography, it’s still relevant. What am I talking about?

Weight loss.

Weight can be an issue, at times, when doing a shoot. It can make you unable to move in ways you need to move, in order to get a great shot, or just making it hard to move my equipment due to my extra weight. I am currently in the process, and trust it is a process, to shed a few pounds.

So, a lot of people may not know this about me, but I have always been a thick chick. I was chubby as a child, thick as a teen, and have grown wider as an adult. I have always wanted to be lighter, as far as my weight goes. I was just clueless about it. So, I would try diet trends that have all failed me. I keep trying to lose, but no real hope.

My main problem: late night sugar run.

I asked a friend of mine, Mr. Ty Hanson, to help me in losing a few pounds. I started Wednesday, and began to take account of what I am currently doing, as well as doing some in-home workouts. Realistically, I would like to go down by, at least 20 lbs. I am hoping to exceed my goal. I will keep you posted on my journey, and feel tell me about your journey. I would love the inspiration.

Wish me luck!
