A Day @ 14th & U

Women’s March

Image: Jessica Sabogal

Hello New World,
I awoke this morning to a Trump Presidency, and my heart went into dismay. The very first action he takes, is to use executive order to dismantle Affordable Care Act (aka “Obamacare). I was hurt. I want to be a living testimony of “Obamacare”. For the past few years, I have been hired and fired way too many times to count. In fact, this has effected my self esteem, as well as financial security. The stress has taken a huge toll on my health. I have stress induced migraines, high blood pressure, and a past foot injury that haunts me to this day. I know someone who is reading this is probably stating “So what!”, but hey, this is my story. I could not afford my medication, nor my surgery, and I thank God that Obamacare was available to me. Granted, I am not the best person with change, but I am learning that it is a part of life. However, a Trump presidency that dismantles the Affordable Care Act, should not be a part of it. I am better, but not to the point where I can stand of sit for long periods of time. I was hurt that I could not attend today’s march. I heard that it was a lot of people that attended today’s event. It was so many people that DC was closed until 6pm. I thank God for all the people that came out and stood up for rights. This administration can not stand.

Sticker Marketing: Hip or Hype?

Hello New World,

These past couple of weeks, I have been bored out of my mind! With any operation, you are confined to your home. So, I started something that I have never done before. Binge watching! Yup, Netflix is an addiction all it’s own. So there is a movie on Netflix that had caught my eye called “Exit Through The Gift Shop, A Banksy Film”. It was a documentary about a videographer on the search to meet the legendary Banksy. The surprise twist was that, once he met him, he realized that he was an artist and developed a love for graffiti. It was to be a story on the search of Banksy and it ended up on being a story about the creation of “Mr. Brainwash”. In the movie, he started his marketing, or his transition into graffiti by promotion through stickers. He had another artist create an image of him filming, and he turned the image into a sticker. He placed his stickers all over L.A., I believe. He used these stickers to create his own hype. I thought to myself, “That is a cool way to promote myself.” So, this is an idea I may expand on. It would seem like a brilliant idea, for self promotion. I began to research a few online sites that create custom stickers. There are quite a few online sites for sticker creation. Here are a couple of sites that you may be interested in:

Moo.com

Vistaprint

Sticker you

My thought, is to use my logo as a graffiti creation sticker. What are your thoughts?

One Thing Everyone Must Do

Good Morning New World,

dsc_0005I know it has been a while, and I do apologize. I am in the process of putting my life in a position where I can be back to being me. I realized that during the process of unemployment, you go through a process of redefining. It is very hard, to say the least. In the midst of unemployment, school bankruptcy, etc., we get clouded with moving forward and feel comfortable staying where we are. Wait a minute, you didn’t come here to read about my philosophy. Did you?! Probably not.

So, I will chat about something everyone needs to do. The African American Museum, in Washington DC, is finally built. The outside of the building, is a really eccentric design, but it’s what’s inside that really counts. “The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African American life, history, and culture. It was established by Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. To date, the museum has collected more than 36,000 artifacts. Nearly 100,000 individuals have become charter members of the museum. When the NMAAHC opens on September 24, 2016, it will be the 19th and newest museum of the Smithsonian Institution.” (nmaahc.si.edu, 2016) It has seven floor of history and, from my understanding, the floors goes from the darkest hours, on the bottom floors, to the lighter times. Unfortunately, due to my past injury, I could not view the entire museum. However, I will show you what I did see.

And Enjoy

Location Files .02

Good Morning New World,

I decided to put out another shoot location, in the DMV area. This one is Meridian Hill Park, or as a lot of people are familiar with Malcolm X Park. Meridian Hill Park is a structured urban park located in the Washington, D.C neighborhood of Columbia Heights; it also abuts the nearby neighborhood of Adams Morgan. The park was designed and built between 1912 and 1940. This 12 acre (49,000 m²) formally landscaped site is maintained by the National Park Service as a part of Rock Creek Park, but is not contiguous with that much larger nearby park. Meridian Hill Park is bordered by 15th, 16th, W, and Euclid Streets NW, and sits on a prominent hill 1.5 miles (2.42 km) directly north of the White House. (Wikipedia, 2016) The park is known for its beauty and community gatherings. In fact, one of the most popular activities happens on Sunday, at the Drum Circle. I have yet to go, but I heard it is quite beautiful. So, on to the real nitty gritty. I love to shoot in the park. The park has several locations to shoot from and each part looks as if you are shooting in Europe. The walls that border the park, alone, are excellent backdrops. Also, The waterfall is a must to shoot. The statues make for excellent props, while shooting. I did my first shoot there. Well, my first magazine submission shoot. The images never made it to print, however I still have the images. I did a total planning of that shoot and I was very proud of what I accomplished. When I become employed, again, I would like to start shooting again. I know, it takes time, but I am willing to wait for the latest adventure.

Astropad Review

Good Morning New World,

I know, a day late. I was going through a migraine, so my apologies.

I wanted to give do a review on Astropad. I was on the App Store, looking for new apps that worked with my iPad and Apple Pencil. I just wanted something new. I found an app called “Air Display 3“. I bought it, and it sucked. I hate, and I mean HATE, when an app lags. I did, however, like the idea of “digital mirroring”. In fact, prior to me getting the IPad Pro, I was thinking heavily on getting the Wacom Cintiq tablet. I saw it in B & H Photo, and I fell in love with it. So, I had to make a choice, and the iPad seemed more useful than the Cintiq. However, in a way, I still longed for the Cintiq. So, I did some research, and Terry White, from Kelby One, did a review on Astropad. So, I decided to give it a try. Hell, I had spent, and had returned 15 bucks. What’s an additional 15?!

So let me start off by saying that I am very pleased with this app. Absolutely, NO LAG! The app runs so smoothly. I tried it, during a quick retouch, and it made it sooooooooo easy. I can see doing a digital retouch, way faster. I only have two major complaints. The first is the screen size. The screen mirrors in widescreen. Just me, but it can be slightly annoying. The work around for this is the drag and zoom option, but it’s a temporary fix. The second is the screen color. I am not totally sure if it’s my MacBook or the app, but I noticed the screen, while running the app, ran a little hot. Meaning- the screen ran heavy on red tones. Customer service was very helpful, and I even received an email thanking me for the purchase. However, the app I still pretty awesome and I recommend this app to any digital artist.

Glitter Glowbal and Uomo Magazine. My Weekend in NYC.

Hey New World,

_DSC4244I know. It has been a hard week at work. Last week, the company that I work for, TASC, had begun the transition over to Engility. Yes, I do have a “regular” job. So, needless to say, that I have been swamped. Also, planning for the upcoming shoot, next weekend, has me super busy and stoked! So, today is the “catch up” day.

So, okay! We (me and Mr. Aviles) went up to NY on Thursday, the wrapping of to New York Fashion Week. I wish I would have went up earlier, during All Star Weekend! I think it would have been fun! So, when I went to this particular event, I did it up! Anyone tha_DSC4221t knows me knows that when I normally do events, I come dressed down, because, I’m me! For NYFW, I figured I better come with it! From a prior event I shot at, Latin FW, in NYC, I saw a lot of exceptional hair and make up artists. I was able to get in touch with one young lady, named Deina Nelson. She is nothing but the truth. She does vicious work! So, any NYC photographers, in need of an MUA, you need to get at her! I got “dolled up” for the weekend events. We did the Glitter and Glowbal and it was amazing. The Museum of Sex was a little small, but pretty cool. I would love to see the place during normal business hours. We had VIP seats, and front row was awesome! We caught the last show.

_DSC4245The designer’s inspiration was late Alexander McQueen. The masks the model’s had were awesome. The rhinestones mask and glasses, made me want to buy them, on spot! The party for Uomo Magazine, for me, was a little dry. The Gavensport Hotel was absolutely amazing. I met a few individuals. One artist I met was named Natiq. He’s an amazing artist that has showed his work in various places, around the world. I also met Conrad Bradford. He is a designer who made an extraordinary hat. Conrad did something that most people in the industry don’t and wouldn’t do, told me some real good information that made me think. He is a wonderful man for that!

_DSC4226

Now, of course, while in NYC, you gotta go to the holy grail of photography spots! Yes, I hit B&H Photo    . I never realized how close it was t_DSC4242o my hotel. I went there, with the intention of getting a Nikon D5300. I was soooooooooo set on getting this camera, as my back up. I came in, and the sales rep said, to me “Yeah, you could go with that, or you could check out the D5500.” So, I thought, wouldn’t hurt. I fell in love with it! The exact same features as the D5300, minus the GPS feature. Now, when I purchased the camera, I thought this camera is 2 years out, maybe! I didn’t know this camera was released in January 2015! So, I’m not sure if it’s Adobe or Nikon, but the RAW files need to be compatible with Adobe. Amazing images, and I can’t show them, as of yet, because the file situation. I wanted to use the camera for the upcoming shoot, but if I do, I would use it in JPEG. Urgh!

Anyway, love the time, loved the shows, and I can’t wait to go back up!

Updates………….Again?!

Hey New World,

Oh wow!

Once again, I am running again!

Courtesy of All Star Latin

I want to give a quick “heads up” to any photographers, press, PR, and any media mediums out there. A friend of mine, in New York, is hosting an event. She is looking for media, to come out to her event. This is a major event and she is looking for media mediums to come out and show out! The event will be held at the Library Theater. I will link the show at the bottom of the post. If you’re interested in press passes, please click the link below, as well.

So, here are the updates.

Tonight, is Touché. The opening of Touché Supper Club is happening tonight. This will take place at 1123 H Street, in Northeast DC. The doors open at 4pm and the tour of the establishment starts at 5pm. There will be live local entertainment and menu samples.  So, come on and show out!

February 18-20, is the Cattura Vanity Magazine Fashion Week party. Now, with this one, it caught my eye because of the location. It will be held at the Museum of Sex in New York. I know, and the freak in me screams, “CAN’T WAIT!” Yes, smiling and blushing. I figured, since Valentines is the weekend, I would invite my boyfriend to the show. I mean, why not?! This place seems like a great spot for couples. I saw the site for the location, and it seemed like an “interesting” place to visit. The will be a fashion show and I upgraded to the VIP section. WOOT, WOOT!

February 20th, is two events that I need to choose from. I have the Glitter and Glowbal, at the Museum of Sex (yes that spot again!) and NYFW with Malph. This one is a rooftop event. The only part that may prevent me from doing that event, would be the fact that we are talking New York, in February, on a ROOFTOP! It’s going to be freezing! So that one, seems very swank, but still deciding if it’s doable.

Oh, and while I am in New York, I plan on visiting B&H photo. Yes, it’s the photographer’s toy store. The conveyer belts and every piece of equipment a photographer could think of? My idea of heaven.

Anyway, TTYL!

Lady Tre’s Year Wrap Up!

Hello New World,

10453376_10203973787575504_1122884582315844469_nWell……………Good bye 2014 and Hello 2015!

Yup!

For me, 2014 was an amazing year!

If there is one piece of advice I can give to you, it would be to follow your dreams! Regardless to whatever the odds may be or whomever thinks whatever, do it! This year, I traveled, made new connects, I’ve gotten more “in depth” in my chosen path, I made Manhattan my second home, and over all, I learned more about myself than I did before. In 2015, I need to make is much more amazing! I want to do way more in photography, in terms of fashion, and become more business savy, within the field.

January, other than the birth of me, was a proclamation month, for me. That month, brought me more into the studio. I believe I wrapped up my lighting classes, which gave me more confidence to be in the studio. It also introduced me to the goal of becoming a published photographer. That was a goal I was able to accomplish, twice!

20140326-101712.jpgFebruary,opened me up to what New York has in store for me! It showed me a world beyond the political rhetoric of DC. Spring was very interesting. It introduced me to more events. I did the “Get Radical” Women’s Conference and my first Bobbi Boss Hair Show, thanks to Ms. Alee of Dynamic PR. The summer lends itself more towards creativity. I did more themed shoots, such as “Candy Coated” and “Flashdance”. Also, in August, was the premiere issue of “Dame”, and the very first time I was published in a publication. It is still available through JooMag! I still remember when Sisqo sang in my phone! 20140702-182807-66487231.jpgThe fall, I was blessed enough to go backto NYC, twice. Once to be a participant in the Race for the Cure, NYC, and then to obtained a press pass for latin-fashion-week-galeria-expo-and-showroom-2012_239x200Latin Fashion Week. What a thrilling experiencefor me! I also had the opportunity to take a stylist course, through MShopNYC and did the Hair Games, which came to DC. Winter is wrapping up, for me, on a blessed note. I was able to get some rest, and life is settling down. Rest, seems to be something, now a days, I don’t get enough of and I am finally getting some of that! So, once again, not to sound like a broken record, but if you didn’t do it, in 2014, make it work in 2015.

See Ya in the New Year!

DC, Are You Ready? The Hair Games Review

150165_10205351887587143_1021390835517423317_nGood Morning New World,

So……………I finally have a break, coming!

Phew!

I am overly excited, to have nothing but rest, for a while. It seems as though it has been a while since I had a one of those. This, I think, would be good for me because I need to do so much, as far as catching up with friends, revamping the site, reorder and adding a new set to my business cards, new shoot ideas, etc..

So, okay…..you’re reading because you want to know about the Hair Games, right?!

This time, for this event, I brought my daughter to the show. She is starting out in photography and fashion, and I felt like this would be a good event for her to attend. Also, I wanted to show her that, with a proper education, along with set determination, you can attain your goals. I mean, granted, I’m not where I want to be, but the journey to the goal, has been great. I know, you are saying, “Wait, didn’t you learn photography, on your own?”. Yes I did, but my education in Multimedia catapulted me into Photography. I’m rambling off the subject. So, the show was great. Once again, Derek J was there with his vicious self. He had on an awesome pair of brown heels, judging the show. Also, this year, the show added Tre Majors, to the judging line up. He has done hair for Patti LaBelle and Aaliyah, to name a few. I must say, he is a very humble man. Also, the co founder of Dudley Q, Joe Dudley, had made an appearance, along with Ean Williams and Harvey “Star” Washington. The show performances were great. The stylist, that competed, were very talented. The styles were so amazing. The only problem was the lack of enthusiasm, from the crowd. I would say, the was a decent amount of enthusiasm, at the beginning of the show, then died towards the end. Great show, lacklustered audience. Here are a few images from the show.

Enjoy and TTYL!
