The Photographer’s Socialite…..Could Be?!

Hello New World,

On my morning walk, I was blasting my cell phone music, and was thinking about what would be my next move. All of a sudden, a flashing idea, hit me. Should I change my current title?

Well, let me go into a brief description of my current title. I named my blog ” A Chic With A Camera”, because when I first started doing photography, the term “A dude with a camera”, was a derogatory term for a novice photographer. I know that the term is still used on Model Mayhem for those photographers that take low quality ass shots. Not trying to offend anyone, but you know who you are. At the time, I was a chic with a camera, and I had no real respect. So, once I got more into NAPP, and hanging more with my friend, Leah Jones, I wanted to change it into something decent. I am not saying that I have completely changed the term, but I have tried to get people to give it a second look.

Anyway, I am beginning to notice that I go to more social events, as oppose to doing my photography. This got me to thinking, what about being a socialite? That would seem fun, to be the it girl at all the parties. Then, another thought hit me. Wait, don’t you have to be rich?! Not necessarily so. Wikipedia defines it as “A socialite is a member of a social elite, or someone aspiring to be a member. According to Merriam-Webster the word was first used in 1928. A socialite participates in social activities and spends a significant amount of time entertaining and being entertained at fashionable events attended by others of similar standing.” Didn’t say anything about money. So, why not?!

So, I want to change things up, once I graduate from AI (Art Institute of Washington). Once I am close to graduating, I want to change from “A Chic With A Camera” to “The Photographer’s Socialite”. I will still be the same, but more social activities. I love it!

Everyone, let me know your thoughts.

Branding Update

Hello New World,

I just wanted to give a quick update to a previous post. Creative Live is doing a FREE webinar, on Branding. It is called “Sarah Petty, Branding”. This seems like it should be a very interesting class. The class begins on October 3rd and will go on until October 5th. I believe that will be a weekend. I will add a link below. So fellow photographers, please check it out!

School Comes First!

Hello New World,

Well, anyone that has been following my brief posts, know that, like a majority of Americans, I am looking for work. In fact, it has been this way for three years. That is very hard to admit. Being unemployed also had me pick up weight. Like 40 extra lbs. I began to change myself, and I know that it has been a rough three years. Especially for my man. I know there are days when he, literally, wanted to kick my ass, on a daily basis.

So, I began to change myself. The weight that I gained, I wanted to lose it. So I got the Six Week Body Makeover. I wanted to experience fashion photography, so I began to put together my own photo shoots. I freelanced, for a while, and still have been able to do my courses. Through this time, I have discovered my talents, obtained an Associates Degree, and on my way to receiving my Bachelor’s. Eventually, I became a little burnt, on photography.

So, starting the spring 2013, I will be returning back to class. This time, I will study my passion. I will be attending the Art Institute, in Arlington, to get my Bachelors in photography. I am very excited on doing this. I want to be able to have my work shown in magazines. I want to be one of those photographers that Tyra Banks uses on her show, ANTM. Yeah, I dream big. But, really, isn’t that necessary to succeed in what you believe in?

Anyway, it is 9:15 pm EST. So, I will be saying………..

Worn Magazine is Throwing A Party. Are You In?

Hello New World,

I have been scouring the internet, to find fashion publications, in DC. I found a few, but one magazine has caught my eye. There is a publication called “Worn“. The website states, “Worn Magazine is a DC-born publication intended to bring greater awareness of local fashion and art to the District and to the nation. It is our view that lives embellished with art and style are the best lived, and the magazine exists to encourage the flourishing of both in the DC community. We believe that creativity has the power to bring people together, showcasing commonality rather than difference. Through our partnerships with local artists and businesses, we strive to make DC a more art- and style-conscious city that is more accepting of various forms of personal expression.”

Well, back to my point. Worn is doing a relaunch, called Worn Abroad, and the mag is celebrating. The party will be at Capital Skyline Hotel, in SW. I have recently started to love SW, so I am definitely in on this party. The tickets are $20.00, and you get an advanced issue of the mag.

So, are you in?

Are You Ready? DCFW is Coming!

Hello Everyone,

So is everyone ready, again? DC Fashion Week is fast approaching with new looks for spring/summer 2013. The designers, this time, look to be very interesting. The schedule seems to be the same, as last year, which would be great to have a slight switch up. But, none the less, I am very excited. This year, due to my personal schedule, I won’t be attending every show. I will be only doing the Networking Party @ Dirty Bar. This year, I am only interested in networking, more so than fashion, this year.

With that being stated, can’t wait to see you there!
